The Next Top Chef: Cakes

Late last night as I was working on making more bows and goodies for the craft fair I will participating in this weekend and ended up empting several spools of ribbon.  I had stacked them up and an idea popped into my head! I could make a stackable cake for Dominic with these!! Today while working on a few more craft fair projects I took a break by making my son that cake I thought of last night.  I gathered up a few sizes of empty ribbon spools and dipped into my scrap fabric stash and found some Camo, John Deere and Green (all Dominic's favorite things).

After I covered the spools in fabric I thought, this cake needs a candle and with my craft brain on full charge an empty glue stick came to mind (another recycle bin goodie).  I then covered it in  green fabric, leaving extra at the top to tie up to look like a flame.  I also grabbed some 1/4 yellow ribbon and wrapped it around the fabric to look more like a candle.  Being a bling lover and someone who can't leave anything plain, I added a few jewels to make it look like the cake had been decorated, and Tada a stackable layered cake to add to Dominic's kitchen.
I actually really love this because not only did I make a cake to add to our fake food goodies but I also created a toy that Dominic can use to work on motor skills.  We had a great time learning to stack the cake in the correct ascending order by size.  As usual he learned so quickly and honestly figured it out right away (he is one smart cookie!) He really  liked "frosting" the cake pieces, blowing out the candle and serving Mommy with her very own piece of his hand made cake!

The Next Top Chef: The New Kitchen

My Son's grandmother came across a cute kitchen set a lady was giving away for free.  We picked it up and cleaned it up and brought it inside for him to "cook" while Mommy cooks lunch and dinner.  Dominic absolutely loves his new kitchen.  I looked around for some plates and goodies to let him play with and came up with a few mini pots and pans I honestly never use.  I then grabbed my box of felt and foam and starting making him up some foods to cook in his new kitchen.  I found tons of cute patterns online but nearly all of them were sewing projects and truth be told that is just not a possibility with an impatient 2 yr old and Mommy's limited free time.  I then set my craft mind to the task and starting making foods with the felt and hot glue!! I love my glue gun, of course as online boutique owner (check it out on facebook: www.facebook.com/creationbyshelli) I use my glue gun every single day so I was right at home with coming up with a non sew project.  We had just had breakfast for dinner the night before so I used that as my inspiration and created Dominic some fried eggs, bacon and pancakes.  I actually think they turned out great!
At this point I wanted to make everything I could possibly come up but due to time frame I didn't have that chance but I did make him some bread, jelly and peanut butter.  I also gave him a peanut butter jar, a little cookie jar, and empty ketchup bottle I had due our recycle bin really needing to be taken to the recycle center.  Dominic loved the peanut butter and jelly and made his Daddy a sandwich for when he gets home from work.  He is such a little sweetheart!

A few days later while at the store I noticed the 1/2 dozen eggs cartons and had to get one for Dominic and his eggs(Easter Eggs).  It fits perfectly in his tiny little refrigerator.  Dominic also paid for his own set of 3 spatulas and spoons ($.88 what a buy).  I will be adding more foods as I get the chance.  My plan is for Dominic to be able to make the same thing we are having for dinner or lunch so he can help cook with Mommy!

Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays Challenge-Mother's Day

It's Time for another Challenge at Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays
This week's challenge is "Mother's Day."
Our Challenge Sponsor is Digi Darla. The winner will receive $10 Certificate to the store.

The Story:
This weeks Story is very simple... it's a Mother's Day Card lol.  I love to go shopping with my Mother, our favorite shopping is at the Dollar Store and Craft Stores!  I haven't been able to shop with my Mother since I moved in Nov and miss it very much.  I can't wait til she gets to come visit or we get the chance to go see my family!!

Project How To's:

Scallop Matte- My Mother cut out some scalloped papers for me from her Cuttlebug. (Thanks Mom) One of my embellishments had white faux stitching on it so I decided to stick all around the scallop Matte.  It gave it more of a clothing feel I think.

Digi- I didn't add a bow this time lol.  I did have to do something to the digi because that is how I work.  I added a few jewels to her sandals, Her hat had cute little flowers on it as well as the shopping bag.  I was lucky to have 3 super small flower jewels so I placed them on the digi.  It turned out so cute.  I also popped the Digi up to bring her off the paper.  I love how this card turned out and I hope my Mom does too!!

Supplies Used:
  • Digi- Digi Darla
  • Papers- Solids: Recollections and Stash,                                                                                         Pattern: Hot off the Press, Paper Pizzaz Retro
  • Embellishments: Hot off the Press Paper Pizzaz Retro

Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturday Challenge-Ribbon and Bows

It's Time for another Challenge at Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays
This week's challenge is "Ribbon and Bows."
Our Challenge Sponsor is Circle B Enterprises
The winner will receive a $10 gift cerficate to Veronica's Scrapbooking Store!!

The Story:
I love Bows!!A sweet teenager I know from back home is an amazing dancer.  She recently won platinum all the way around at her competition.  Miss Maggie had also had some beautiful pictures taken of her and I used it as my inspiration for the card I made for her.

Project How To's:

Circle Surrounding Digi- I cut out an aqua blue Circle, I then punched holes with a pin.  I threaded ribbon in and out of the holes to give it a whimsical feel.  It still needed some "Pop" so I added black jewels with hot glue.  I liked the look of the glue surrounding the jewels in almost a water drop look!  I adhered the digi to the center for a beautiful finish!!

Digi- I love this little digi.  It is one of my first full price paid for digi's lol but it was positively perfect!  It reminded me of Miss Maggie so much.  Since the challenge is ribbon and bows I added teeny tinny bows to her ballet slippers and her golden hair.  When I say Teeny Tiny I mean just that these are about 1/4inch, if that!  I added glitter to the white shirt and the white flowers in her hair.  She looks just like Miss Maggie don't ya think?

Side Embellishments- For the side embellishments.  I layered a ribbon strip.  Added 2 aqua blue Mini bows and 2 cute little blue stars.

As a stay at home Mom to my 2 year old son, I do crafts for my sanity lol.  I love crafting bows!  You can check them out on my facebook page, I have several styles for fantastic prices! Click on the words Creations by Shelli to see all the fantastic products I make.  This little ballet clip is only $.50!!

  • Digi- Michelle in Her Ballet Recital-by Milk Coffee
  • Papers- Solids: Recollections, Pattern: Paper Studios, Black and white Plaid
  • Ribbon- Bows (handmade by me) from offray ribbon

Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays Challenge- Birthday

It's Time for another Challenge at Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays
 This week's challenge is "Birthday."
Our Challenge Sponsor is Robins Fetish

The Story:
This week I simply wanted to make a few birthday cards.  I had my Aunt and Grandmother in mind when I was making this card.  I believe they will love this cute little birdie image from Robyn's Fetish.

Project How To's:
Sentiments- I punched out 4 1" circles from a bright pink scrap paper.  After cutting out my sentiment I realized it was just too plain! (see picture below).  I have really loved lately to use my colored pencils and blending technique to give an "inked" look. After I did one circle this way I loved it!  I decided to bring the sentiment front and center by inking the edges of the rectangles.  I think they turned out fantastic.  It is Amazing what a few more minutes can do to your projects.

Digi- The Birdie Digi is from Robyn's Fetish (super cute digis!) I added a darker shade of pink around the center of the flowers to give them a little pop!  As usual in my pictures you can not tell but I added glitter to the flower centers and on the darker blues of the Birdie's feathers.

Supplies Used:
  • Digi-Robyn's Fetish
  • Papers-All was from my Stash and Scraps
  • Ribbon- Bow (handmade by me) from offray ribbon
  • Jewels- Topaz Hot fix

Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays-Recycling Challenge

It's Time for another Challenge at Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays
 This week's challenge is "Recycle."
Our Challenge Sponsor is Cutting Cafe.

The Story:
After moving to a new land (St. Louis area lol) near more of our family those family members turned me on to recycling.  I have always wanted to "recycle" but never had the resources near me.  We now have 2 facilities with in 20 minutes (I live in the country) so my Son's Deedee(his great grandpa) comes and picks him up once a week to go to the "Cycle Pace."  Dominic is my 2 year old amazing son who loves his Deedee very much and loves to go for rides with him!
Ever since I started recycling I have found I have SOOOOOO! much less trash!!  I couldn't not believe how much I can recycle.  I do find it frustrating how many plastics are not recyclable but for the most part nearly all of the items we use are.  I feel so great recycling and my trash man appreciates it as well!
We have a little spot reserved in the kitchen for the Recycle Tote and Box for cardboard.   I have been staring at this spot for weeks thinking I need to make a sign for the tote or one for the wall to help decorate my very plain white kitchen walls.  I sat down with my Super cut Recycling Sheet from The Cutting Cafe and went to town making a "Shelli" friendly recycling sign.  I personally think it turned out super Cute!!

Project How To's:
Sentiments- I cut these out the size I wanted and then used my colored pencils to do an outline.  I blended these outlines to give them an "inked" look
Digi- The Restore, Replenish  circle is from The Cutting Cafe.  It says Earth Day in the middle.  I found a super cute little Earth Day FREE digi from MelonHeadz Illustrating.  I re-sized it to fit in the middle of the Restore Circle, colored it to coordinate with the color scheme and attached it to the circle.
Jewels- The Green Jewels on the Recycle background paper blended in too well.  I cut little squares of brown paper to add a little color pop!  This brought out the green jewels very nicely.

Supplies Used:
  • Recycle Paper, and Sentiments-The Cutting Cafe
  • Digi Stamp- MelonHeadz Illustrating (its a free digi!) They have so many super cute digis!
  • Papers, Jewels- From Stash

Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays Challenge-Bunny

It's Time for another Challenge at Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays
 This week's challenge is "Bunny."
Our Challenge Sponsor is Digi Darla Designs.
They are giving you a chance win a $10 gift certificate.

I really like Digi Darla's Digis.  I colored my Found One Bunny Baby purple to bring out the colors in the Easter Egg border I wanted to use. I had a funny little incident with my little Bunny friend.  While adding glue to it to paste it down I twitched when a wasp landed on me and I popped his ear off!!  I couldn't believe it so I acted quickly and added a bow to the one ear but it just didn't look right so I thought about it for a second and thought "Piggie Tails" which I have been making several of lately in my Bow making Business.  I whipped up some Teeny Tiny Piggie Tail bows and fixed the Bunny's little issue!

 Supplies Used:
  • Digi Stamp- Digi Darla
  • Papers- From Stash
  • Ribbon- Offray (Bow Handmade by Myself)

Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays-Use Your Stash Challenge

It's Time for another Challenge at Stamp, Scrap and Doodle Saturdays!  This week's challenge is "Use Your Stash."  Our challenge sponsor is WhoopsiDasy. The winner will receive a sheet of their adorable fairies!

This card is very special to me for 2 reasons.  The first of foremost is my Mother was here visiting when we worked on this card together.  It was so much fun going through my paper and arguing haha.  The second reason is this card was a milestone for me.  This digi was my very first experience with Prisma Colors(hooked!!) and this was also the first time I used a paper that had a pattern already printed on it that needed no other papers!!  It was hard for me but my Mother convienced me that it would turn out great once I added my Shelli Style to it (bling, glitter and or ribbons).  Of course she was right and this card now hangs on my wall in front of my desk as inspiration to try new things in the Card Making World!

Supplies Used:
  • Digi Stamp- Whoopsi Daisy
  • Pattern Paper- Paper Pizzaz Retro
  • Jewels and Glitter Glue- Unknown

My First Dustin Pike Challenge!

I am super excited to announce that I am entering my FIRST Pike's Playground Challenge over on Dustin Pike's Blog!  I have become a huge fan of his digi's and all artwork and recently I made my first Purchase of Digis!  I have only dabbled with freebies but broke down and bought some of Dustin's while he had a crazy awesome sale!

My Little 8 yr old cousin had a birthday today and I made him a card using Dustin Pike's Dino Birthday Set.  It turned out so cute and I had a really good time coloring!  His Mom loved the card and I received several comments on it.

My interpretation of the Sketch
Front of Card: I didn't modify this digi much other than adding Jeweled eyes which are larger than the originals.  I did add a glitter paint to the Blue areas.

Inside of Card:  I really enjoyed coloring a full scene digi.  I will be looking for more of these.  Glitter Paint has been added to the Dino's eyes and the Bones.
